The recent Joint ELIAS Workshop brought together 40 researchers from ELLIS Unit Milan and Japan’s RIKEN AIP. The event featured a rich programme of talks spanning deep learning theory, reinforcement learning, and bandits, strengthening crucial international ties for the future of sustainable AI.

The ELIAS Alliance FROntier AI Award recognizes outstanding leaders of Focused Research Organizations (startups, nonprofits, open-source consortia) advancing frontier AI for real-world impact. The award highlights individuals bridging academic research and value creation, evaluated on impact, innovation, integrity, and leadership.

The TDW on Trustworthy AI event stressed balancing innovation with responsibility, focusing on frugality, fairness, and trust—reducing AI’s environmental impact, tackling bias, and improving transparency through cross-disciplinary collaboration for sustainable, fair, and verifiable systems.

At Asia’s largest tech event in Singapore, ELIAS and IRCAI led important conversations on building ethical AI ecosystems. Featuring a hands-on tutorial and an expert panel, the sessions focused on empowering local communities with frugal, responsible AI solutions for the public good.

The ELIAS Open Call invites SMEs, startups, and NGOs across eligible European countries to submit proposals for projects advancing sustainable and trustworthy AI.

Applications must be submitted online by 31 May 2026, 23:59 CET.

The European Lighthouse of AI for Sustainability (ELIAS) is expanding its Virtual Centre of Excellence in Sustainable and Trustworthy AI. Leading European research institutions are invited to join this interdisciplinary network, gain access to cutting-edge research, and contribute to shaping Europe’s AI ecosystem.

Applications are open until 15 March 2026.

At EurIPS 2025, ELIAS explored how AI can be both powerful and responsible. Experts highlighted that efficiency alone isn’t enough — sustainable AI requires smart computation, task-specific models, and strong interdisciplinary communities.
